Laboratory study on the effect of adding tea powder additive on the compressive strength and shear bond strength of drilling cement
Main Article Content
Abstract
Well cementing provides zonal isolation and structural support, evaluated via compressive strength (CS) and shear bond strength (SBS). This study aims to analyze the effect of adding tea powder waste (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4%) as an organic additive (retarder and filler) in Class G drilling cement. Standard and modified cement samples were cured in a water bath prior to strength testing. Results showed that tea powder continuously decreased CS as concentration increased, with the highest value at 0% (372.52 psi) and the lowest at 4% (15.52 psi) due to delayed setting time and increased porosity. Conversely, SBS exhibited a fluctuating trend, peaking at 1% concentration with 1,102.13 psi (up from 734.75 psi at 0%) before dropping to 293.90 psi at 4%. In conclusion, the optimum concentration of tea powder ranges from 0% to 1%, yielding the best combination of compressive and surface bond strength.
